Concept Art – The Abyss – Ronn Cobb

ok, Final post on the fantastic concept art i found for Ron Cobb recently…and these are my favorites.

James Cameron’s The Abyss is one of my all-time favorite films. When it was first released, it was an obsession of mine. I read every article i could on the development of the film. I read every article released afterwards. I did my 9th-grade Biology Science report on Breathable Fluids and used the clip of the rat (and accompanying segment from the Discovery Channel) during my class presentation.

I also read the novelization by Orson Scott Card…one of the best “novelizations” of a film ever written…and i think its because instead of writing a novel from the script, Card was there during filming, making changes as the story changed. He also wrote 3 short character stories for the prologue – one for each of the three primary characters. And to top it off, the novel included a couple of design references for the underwater Drilling Station – Deepcore.

here we have some of the concept art from the film, both for Deepcore and a couple of the submersibles designed by Ronn Cobb. Such wonderful details in these drawings…

Concept Art – The Last Starfighter Gunstar- Ron Cobb

Another cool find recently on Pinterest – I had no idea Ronn Cobb had designed one of the coolest space fighters from the eighties…the Legendary Gunstar from The Last Starfighter.

And the fact that these are Hand-Drawn…no cgi, no digital art, pencil, pen, and paper…just awesome!

Concept Art – Time Machine Delorean – Ron Cobb

I didn’t know this until recently, but the Time Machine from Back to the Future was designed by one of the best concept artists of the 80s and 90s…Ron Cobb…these were a neat find. More to follow…

Was Metallo Originally Slated To Appear In BATMAN V SUPERMAN? Check Out This Concept Art

Concept art has surfaced via Reddit and ArtStation that reveals Metallo was originally slated to appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, in a film that included Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, Doomsday and KGBeast it appears Metallo was deemed one comic book villain too many. Another clue that points to Metallo’s early inclusion in the film was the fact that the LexCorp scientist who found the kryptonite on that remote island for Lex, is actually Dr. Emmet Vale as revealed in the end credits.  Comic book fans will recognize that Emmet Vale was the scientist who created Metallo in the comics. The artwork was produced by Robert McKinnon, who has also worked on Iron Man 3, Justice League and The Walking Dead.

Piggy-backing on yesterday’s post, today we bring you some cool designs from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The Movie was…Well you know how it was. I was particularly impressed with Electro’s scenes. His Electricity effect was very cool.

As for this batch of concept art, I honestly prefer these designs for Rhino and the Goblin over what they used in the film.

Art by Ben Mauro, Robert Simons, and and Kelton Cram.

New Category- Concept art. We are going to start things off with some Spider-Man concept art from The Amazing Spider-Man.

Its always fun to look at concept art from movies. I like to see all the cool, and sometimes not so cool, ideas the various artists have and which parts make it to the final design. They can also be a great source of inspiration for my own art.

We’re gonna start things off with some of the various concepts for Spider-man from The Amazing Spider-Man. I think a number of these designs are better than the final product we saw on screen.

None of this artwork is mine. I do not currently know who created them. Will give proper credit once it is confirmed.

Josh Nizzi nailed this one. Gorgeous design for the Silver Samurai from Hugh Jackman’s second Wolverine film, The Wolverine.
