Star Trekkin Sundays – STAR TREK 4 Status Uncertain After Talks With Chris Pine & Chris Hemsworth Fall Apart :(

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media’s ongoing negotiations with Chris Pine (Wonder Woman 1984) and Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Infinity War) for Star Trek 4 have fallen apart over the past few days, with both sides walking away from the table. This latest development has thrown the entire production into a state of flux and it’s now uncertain what the two studios will do to ensure the project, which remains a high priority for them, stays on track. THR theorizes that both sides could ultimately return to the negotiating table to hammer out new contracts, but, if they can’t come to terms, then the roles of both Captain Kirk (Pine) and his father (Hemsworth) could potentially be recast, but that’s a last-ditch move that almost definitely wouldn’t go over well with fans.  As for what happened, it appears that there was a major money dispute. According to the report, both Pine and Hemsworth have had deals in place for the fourth installment since 2016, but, due to the underwhelming box office performance of Star Trek Beyond ($343.4M worldwide on a $190M budget), both studios are asking the two in-demand, borderline A-list, stars to take pay cuts to accommodate a smaller budget for the fourth film. Deals with fellow returning stars Zoe Saldana (Avengers: Infinity War), Zachary Quinto (Hotel Artemis), Karl Urban (Thor: Ragnarok), Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), and John Cho (Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle) were expected to be finalized after both Pine and Hemsworth, but their statuses are now uncertain as well. The sequel, which has tapped S.J. Clarkson (Marvel’s Jessica Jones) to direct, is reportedly not being put on hold, so expect a resolution of some sort in the not-so-distant future.

Rebecca Romijn Reacts to Being DISCOVERY’s Number One | TrekCore Blog

One of the surprise announcement at last Friday’s Star Trek: Discovery panel at San Diego Comic Con was the word that actor Rebecca Romijn had been cast as the new Number One — the first officer of the USS Enterprise under Captain Pike — and a role originated by Majel Barrett in 1964.She wasn’t at the Discovery panel herself, but she did comment briefly to MTR Network about the announcement, from elsewhere in the San Diego convention:Today, however, Romijn shared some more of her reaction to taking on the Trek role with Entertainment Tonight, describing how the opportunity was described to her:“I didn’t know the full story. I was asked if I’d be interested in a somewhat iconic role in the series and I jumped at the chance. I was a Trekkie as a kid with the original series. After I was filled in with all the details — after I said ‘yes’ — oh man, I was floored. It was amazing. She also described what it was like to first put on that 23rd century Starfleet uniform for he first time — and her thoughts on the classic Trek-inspired costume and set designs of the ‘new’ Enterprise.“When they fit me [for the uniform], they fit me in the original gold uniform from [the classic] Enterprise because “Discovery” takes place 10 years before the Original Series. But when they fit me for that uniform, I was teary-eyed.Because [classic “Trek” with the] Enterprise was shot in the ‘60s, we’ve gone with a little bit of a ‘60s flair, which is great — and being there on set, there’s a ‘60s vibe on set. The production is amazing. Just walking through the stages up there, it’s gorgeous — really, really beautiful sets.”Romijn’s first tweet on the subject showcased a small glimpse at her Starfleet look, wearing the same golden uniform as Captain Pike, with official service-issue pants, boots, and Starfleet delta badge in tow.She would not tell ET how many episodes she’ll be appearing in — though she noted that she’s expecting to head back to Toronto for additional filming — but Romjin did reveal that she and Anson Mount’s Captain Pike have spent time talking about their missing Mr. Spock.“I’m working with Anson Mount, who plays an amazing Captain Pike, and we have discussed Mr. Spock. Mr. Spock has been a topic of conversation.”We didn’t get a chance to see Romijn’s new Number One in last week’s Season 2 trailer, so hopefully CBS will share some of the actor’s performance with us soon as we get closer to the new season, expected to kick off in January 2019.

DC Comics Unveils A Drastic New Look For Jason Todd’s RED HOOD

In recent months, Jason Todd has been completely out of control and that culminated recently when he seemingly gunned down The Penguin and outed his secret identity on live television, something which obviously puts Bruce Wayne at risk as people know he’s one of the billionaire’s adopted sons. Now, things are about to get even crazier for the vigilante as he’s now set to receive a makeover. In the next issue of Red Hood and the Outlaws, not only will Jason Todd come to blows with Batman but he’ll don a costume which is a huge departure from what we’re used to but still pretty damn cool.Pete Woods came up with the suit and while an argument could be made that the character is due an update, many fans will no doubt miss what has become an iconic look for the character. As of right now, there’s no indication that Red Hood is coming to the big screen and he was clearly never going to be part of The Batman seeing as Zack Snyder has confirmed that the Dead Robin in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was Dick Grayson (which follows what Frank Miller did in the comics).
